DJ Carlito was born on April 20, 1983 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. As a child his mother took him to music festivals (fiesta patronales) and there is where he discovered his passion for music. Occasionally, he would share the stage imitating recording artists. This experience is what set forth the dream to become a DJ. He embraced how music affects the listeners and he wanted to be apart of that. At the age of six, DJ Carlito moved to Brooklyn, New York. This transition exposed him to diverse cultures and all genres of music. With time he built his music collection in both English & Spanish. At 14 years old, he started to DJ with Denon dual CD player, stacking speakers out of his window, blaring different sounds for his neighborhood. Soon thereafter, he began to DJ his own mixes created in his basement, at house parties and community events.
In 2007, DJ Carlito hit the club scene opening for several DJ’s spinning 30 minute sets. Following in 2008, he had his official debut at Remy Lounge in Queens, NY; alongside DJ Spin One and host Laura Stylez. This was the beginning of taking his career to another level. Fellow DJ’s Prostyle, Camilo and Alex Sensation, inspired Carlito to take it further with a determination to make a name for himself.
Hence the same year, DJ Carlito released his first mixtape “Club Madness Vol. 1” with the help of DJ 38. In addition, DJ Carlito joined ESP51 Internet radio station. He started as a cohost and by 2009 thru 2011 he had his own show The DJ Carlito Mix Show. The show aired every Monday from 8-10pm on ESP51tv.com. Aside from hosting his own show and spinning music, DJ Carlito interviewed many artists both signed and independent. Each broadcast would draw in over 15,000 viewers.
He gained popularity all over the United States, Latin America and Europe. This recognition led to djing in clubs throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. In 2009, DJ Carlito was hired for the “Three Kings Day” parade in which he was the official DJ for recording artist Daddy Yankee. On April 23, 2011, DJ Carlito was given the opportunity to broadcast live for LAMEGA 97.9 FM at Club Pure. This allowed him to display his talent, skills and professionalism on FM radio.
The same year DJ Carlito was recruited by DJ Prostyle and the members of All Pro DJ’s to join their team as an official All Pro DJ. DJ Carlito has independently promoted and released 16 mixtapes up to date. He has performed at thousands of venues in the course of 7 years. Including, a sold out arena with Redbull in 2013, Euphoria in The Dominican Republic, events with Latin Quarters, Blitz, Rumors, Stage 48, 40/40, Mamajuana, Glazz, Arena and three consecutive years performing in the National Puerto Rican Day Parade.
His accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. In 2012, DJ Carlito was offered an internship at Amor radio station 93.1 FM assisting on-air personality AJ El Kallejero. Carlito took this opportunity to learn as much as possible focusing on the hands on training with all aspects of the board and equipment. He not only understands the importance of the performance, but also the technical aspect as an on-air personality.
Shortly after, DJ Carlito was asked to broadcast live for a second time on La Mega 97.9 for Labor Day weekend in 2013 and for Long Island radio station La fiesta 98.5 FM. DJ Carlito currently has his own mix show “ hora de rescate ” every Friday on La Fiesta 98.5 FM. La fiesta has given him the platform to share his unique flavor reaching listeners throughout Long Island and Connecticut. DJ Carlito’s hard work and dedication has earned him four Latin Mixx Award nominations and his first award for “Best Club DJ” of 2014.
DJ Carlito also known as “Bushwick’s Finest” is presently touring and booked for various events on a daily basis. He is still that kid from Puerto Rico filled with dreams and aspirations.
